Creating Art That Inspires. Transforming Spaces. Empowering Communities.
Mike Norice is an acclaimed Los Angeles-based contemporary artist, muralist, and community advocate whose work has transformed public spaces and inspired communities throughout Southern California for more than two decades. Known for his powerful visual storytelling, dynamic compositions, and socially conscious artwork, Norice creates art that bridges cultural identity, historical awareness, and the transformative power of creativity.
Born and in Watts, California, Norice's journey is rooted in resilience, determination, and an unwavering belief in the power of art to create positive change. Growing up amid poverty, homelessness, and the realities of gang violence, he experienced firsthand the challenges facing many underserved communities. Rather than allowing those circumstances to define his future, he transformed his experiences into a driving force behind his artistic vision and lifelong commitment to inspiring others.
A naturally gifted artist, Norice pursued formal education to strengthen his creative foundation. He earned an Associate of Arts degree from Los Angeles Southwest College, graduating summa cum laude, before continuing his studies at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM), where he graduated with honors in Apparel Merchandising. Combining his academic training with more than 30 years of professional artistic experience, Norice has developed a distinctive multidisciplinary style that seamlessly blends realism, contemporary fine art, graphic design, character illustration, and large-scale public art.
Throughout his career, Norice has created numerous commissioned murals, original paintings, and public art installations celebrating culture, history, identity, and community. His artwork transforms ordinary environments into meaningful visual experiences, often addressing themes of unity, perseverance, social justice, faith, and collective empowerment. In 2014, he achieved a significant career milestone when he became the first African American muralist recognized by the City of Carson, California. His work continues to be displayed throughout Los Angeles and beyond, contributing to neighborhood revitalization, cultural preservation, and civic pride.
Artfully United — Art With Purpose
In 2017, Norice founded Artfully United, a nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting underserved communities through the transformative power of public art, creative expression, and community engagement.
Central to this mission is the Artfully United Mural Tour, a series of inspirational murals strategically placed throughout Los Angeles neighborhoods, particularly communities facing economic and social challenges. Featuring powerful, single-word messages such as LOVE, HOPE, BELIEVE, and FORGIVENESS, these murals are designed to inspire reflection, encourage positivity, and create meaningful connections between art and the people who encounter it.
Each mural also features Powerful Paul, Norice's original character, whose youthful optimism, faith, and playful spirit symbolize the limitless potential of future generations. Through Powerful Paul, Norice introduces themes of kindness, perseverance, imagination, and the power of prayer, making his artwork accessible and meaningful to audiences of all ages.
Norice believes that a mural is more than an image painted on a wall — it is an ongoing conversation with the surrounding community. His approach to public art emphasizes collaboration, cultural relevance, and the importance of creating work that reflects the identity, aspirations, and lived experiences of the people it serves.
A Multidisciplinary Artist With a Lasting Vision
Beyond his public murals, Norice's artistic practice encompasses original fine art paintings, commissioned portraiture, contemporary character art, graphic design, and public art consulting. His work moves fluidly between traditional and contemporary mediums, combining technical precision with imaginative storytelling and bold visual expression.
His artistic contributions have earned numerous honors and recognitions from distinguished institutions and organizations, including the California State Legislature, California State Senate, City of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Unified School District, and Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. His work has also received recognition from prominent figures in entertainment, including Kendrick Lamar, Mariah Carey, and Tom Cruise.
Despite his professional achievements, Norice remains deeply connected to the community that shaped him. Through mentorship, educational outreach, motivational speaking, and collaborative art projects, he continues to encourage young people to recognize their potential, pursue education, embrace creativity, and overcome adversity.
Today, Mike Norice continues to expand his artistic legacy through original fine art, large-scale public commissions, and community-centered initiatives. His work reflects a belief that art has the ability not only to beautify physical spaces but also to challenge perspectives, inspire dialogue, preserve cultural history, and strengthen the human connection.
For Mike Norice, art is more than a creative expression — it is a responsibility, a platform for positive change, and an opportunity to leave a lasting impact on future generations.
